There are many things that we as humans can safely consume everyday but, sometimes these vast substances that are safe for human consumption, can be toxic to your pets. If you’ve ever taken the time to read your e-juice label you would notice that just like prescription medication there is a warning sticker that states “keep away from children and pets.” This is because most e-juices that vapers use contain nicotine, which if consumed, is incredibly dangerous for the health and safety of your furry friends. So, how do you practice vaping safety around your pets?

What should you be aware of?

Be a responsible owner and a responsible vaper. If you love your pet, a little caution and self-awareness goes a long way. Here are a few things that you can do to ensure that you are practicing vaping safety around your pets.

  • Keep your e-liquids properly stored: Most e-juice bottles are child-proof, but your pets usually have more strength and determination to chew through its packaging. If you keep your bottles stored in a cupboard out of reach when you aren’t using it, then your pet shouldn’t be able to come into contact with it very easily.
  • Vape in a different surrounding then your pet: When you’re vaping, we recommend doing so in a different area then where your pet is. Maybe step outside and take a puff? Or simply have a designated area, like your garage, where the animal doesn’t have access.
  • Charge your e-cigarette somewhere out of reach: Whether you plug it in and store it in a cupboard while it’s charging or you simply shut a door, it’s always a good idea to make sure that your pet isn’t able to pull it down and eat the contents or the device.
  • Never allow your pets to lick your vapor or your e-cig: Although this seems like common sense, since both your vapor and your device can contain traces of nicotine, the safest option is to keep everything away from your pet altogether.
  • Purchase pre-filled flavor cartridges: A pre-filled flavor cartridge decreases the risk of your pet ingesting any nicotine because they possess a spill-proof technology and are easily disposed of after their use.
  • Zero nicotine vaping: Although there is still a possibility of your pet getting sick if they get a hold of your device, at least the dangers of nicotine can be avoided by zero nicotine vaping.

Vaping safety around your pets is incredibly important for their health and well-being. If you suspect that your pet has ingested nicotine take them to your vet straight away.
